2026 Manhattan Therapy Collective Postdoctoral Fellowship
[last updated February 25th, 2026]
Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until position is filled. Start date contingent on attaining a NYS limited permit, but negotiable.
What We Offer
Most psychologists consider private practice at some point in their career. Whether it’s in addition to work in academia or hospitals, or it’s an intentional transition to prioritize work-life balance - clinical work in private practice is often part of a satisfying career. However, many have little to no prior experience in this clinical context in graduate training. Similarly, many trainees know multicultural identity is important to acknowledge and respect as clinicians, but more often than not it’s a peripheral focus in their clinical work, rather than treated as integral as developing one’s theoretical orientation.
The Postdoctoral Fellowship at Manhattan Therapy Collective provides focused mentorship and hands-on experience in what it means to be a multiculturally responsive, integrative, and confident psychologist in group private practice. This is an excellent training opportunity for those curious about private practice, interested in an integrative approach to clinical work, and supervision that focuses on multicultural identity in conceptualization, therapeutic dynamics, and person of the therapist.
This position is ideal for a limited permit psychologist who:
Is interested in exploring the experience of hybrid clinical work in a full-fee group private practice
Is a collaborative team player who aligns with our professional values
Is growth-oriented and open to constructive feedback about their clinical practice
Experienced in an evidence based approach (e.g., CBT, DBT, CPT, IPT, EMDR) and can implement it in a relational manner
Enjoys working with adults in therapy, especially high-achieving professionals, recent graduates, parents, creatives, and first-timers in therapy
Actively seeking therapy work with a diverse adult population (e.g., BIPOC, LGBTQ+, ethnicity, 1st and 2nd gen, non-binary, neurodiverse)
Is proactive and has strong organizational skills, communication skills, and consistent professionalism
Demonstrates self-awareness and eagerness to reflect on their own identity, biases, and countertransference;
Is interested in examining the impact of power, privilege, and social injustice on the therapist-pt relationship and within the field of psychology
Is looking for integrative supervision that includes evidence-based approaches (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, IPT, somatic, etc), relational approaches (e.g., attachment-based, psychodynamic), and an anti-oppressive, multicultural framework
Is open to learning and using introductory marketing and entrepreneurial strategies
About Manhattan Therapy Collective
We are committed to an integrative, relationally-centered, and evidence based approach to therapy grounded in a multiculturally responsive and an anti-oppressive framework. Our team works with adults 18 years of age and older. Common areas of focus in therapy are mood disorders, relationship difficulties (dating, marriage, family or work dynamics), academic or work stress, trauma (PTSD and complex trauma), life transitions (career change, perimenopause, parenthood), marginalized identity stress, perinatal and postpartum adjustment, grief and loss, and perfectionism. As a practice, we prioritize work-life balance and clinician health - as we know when therapists are supported in thriving, everything else benefits.
Our Postdoctoral Fellow will be supported in the advancement of a well-rounded professional identity, including: screening new patients to strengthen clinical judgement of an appropriate referral, fine tuning an integrative theoretical orientation, managing a diverse caseload and potential waitlist, addressing imposter syndrome, practicing the setting and raising of fees with patients, managing billing independently, learning basic marketing strategies, strengthening referral retention, identifying/building specialties or niche expertise, and deepening clinical confidence and instinct. Regular check-in points about feedback and ongoing professional goals with the clinical director are expected. Postdoctoral fellows are provided regular supervision, mentorship, administrative support, and referrals to build their caseload. Our small practice size allows postdoctoral fellows to receive undivided attention and highly individualized support for their health and success.
While we will not require our postdoctoral fellow to provide manualized treatment or adhere to a singular evidence-based theoretical orientation, we do expect interest in training in multiple EBPs and incorporating them relationally to best serve patient needs. We emphasize a balance between therapy promoting self-awareness and actionable change and will supervise as such. We will also emphasize growth in multicultural self-reflection, conceptualization, and clinical practice from an anti-oppressive framework. Those interested only in psychodynamically oriented supervision or psychoanalytic work will not be a good fit for our patient population or supervisory approach. Prior private practice experience is not necessary.
Dr. Peggy Loo (she/her) is the clinical director and founder of Manhattan Therapy Collective. She is a Midwestern transplant who moved to NYC for her PhD in Counseling Psychology at Columbia University - and never left. Prior to that, she worked as a master’s level clinician in Illinois with underserved adults and families in community mental health. Dr. Loo has advanced training in multiple theoretical orientations, perinatal mental health, traumatic stress, and multicultural psychology. She is passionate about a multicultural and social justice orientation to clinical practice and training, a thoughtful integration of relational and evidence-based approaches, and a clinician-focused approach to the business of private practice. She balances her own clinical caseload while actively mentoring and supervising the MTC team. She is dedicated to creating an empowering and exploratory environment for Fellows to discover their professional and entrepreneurial identity in private practice.
Applicants who have a background counseling psychology, prior experience treating trauma, or interested in deepening multicultural self-reflection and practice are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants are welcome to consider either a part-time or full-time position to support work-life balance. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
