Background & Training

Hamilton is a happy-go-lucky dog who comes to work with Dr. Loo. He is a 15-lb Coton de Tulear, a breed known as the “anti-depressant dog” in France for their cheerful personality. Hamilton is hypoallergenic and enjoys belly rubs, naps, and optimistically waiting for treats. He’s a proud graduate of puppy kindergarten and knows a number of commands.

Learn more about Hamilton

  • Hamilton is not a certified therapy dog, although many people find him pretty therapeutic. Research has shown that simply petting a dog for 10 minutes can reduce cortisol levels (a stress hormone in the body) and boost mood.

  • Absolutely! He enjoys belly rubs and ear scratches. However, you do not need to interact with him at all if you prefer not to. He is happy to nap in his dog bed or under the couch.

  • More likely than not, Hamilton will be in his dog bed, under the couch, or under Dr. Loo's chair. You may hear him sleep bark softly from time to time if he's napping. Sometimes he gets a day off of work and is at home.

  • Yes, Hamilton has completed basic obedience training. He’s familiar with a number of traditional commands, such as sit, down, stay, shake, and roll over. He has also been taught a few non-traditional ones! Hamilton is trained not to jump on furniture without permission.

  • Dogs have either a fur coat or a hair coat. Dogs with fur coats have shorter growth cycles, and therefore shed regularly, often growing thicker coats in the winter. While it’s untrue that hypoallergenic dogs never shed at all, they shed far less (they are similar to humans in this regard), which is why they are called hypoallergenic.

  • Hamilton happily works pro bono and will also accept a head scratch or belly rub.
